Another dominant theme from our retreat was the fact that God not only loves me – but He loves me with an extravagant love. He is an extravagant lover and giver.
When He created our universe, He didn’t just make one galaxy for earth to revolve in – He created millions more for us to gaze at and say “Wow!”
When He formed the earth and separated the land from the water, He also placed on it amazing places like the Grand Canyon, the Alps, Cabo San Lucas, The Grand Tetons, and the Sahara Desert – so one again His children could look up and say “Wow!”
Instead of creating five or six different types of birds, mammals and insects for us to enjoy, He created over 10,000, 5,500 and 10,000,000 respectively. Wouldn’t we have been okay with just 20-30 of each? Why go to all that trouble?
For us. He wanted us to look at “the works of His hands” and just say “Wow!”
Then, His crowning creative achievement, above and beyond everything He had previously done – was to form man out of the dust of the earth He had just made, and man “in His own likeness/image”. Then He did something He had not done before….”He breathed into man’s nostrils and he became a living soul”. This amazing, loving Father God stooped down and breathed His breath into our lungs and we became a living soul, made in His own likeness. God the stepped back, folded His arms and said “this is very good”. Everything God created was for man, but man was created for God.
Sometime soon, take a look at Psalm 138:17-18 (especially in the Living Bible); Zephaniah 3:17, Psalms 16,18,22,149 and John 10 – and you will see more evidence of God’s extravagant love for you. Yes, He loves the whole world, He loves everyone everywhere – but He wants each of us to know just how much He loves US. Completely, unconditionally, no-strings-attached.
There is nothing you can do to make Him love you any more than He already does.
There is nothing you can do to make Him love you any less.
In fact – if you never go to church again, never read your Bible again or attend your small group, or give your offering…… He won’t love you any less than He does right now. He loves you. He likes you. He passionately desires to spend time with you and be involved in the smallest details of your life.
If we neglect time with Him, it is we who will miss out. What could we possibly find to do that would be more satisfying to our soul than to fellowship with our amazing, generous, passionate, caring, wise, and extravagant God?
“if you will hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and fellowship with you.” Rev.3:20
We get to choose.
