Heaven on Earth

The Lord woke me this morning and urged me to share some thoughts with you from last Sunday’s message from Bill Elliff.

When asked to teach them how to pray, Jesus told his disciples “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven”. He reminds us through Paul in Colossians chapter three that “since we have been raised (already) with Christ, we should seek those things which are above”, and that we “have dies and our life is now hidden with Christ in God”. We have dual citizenship. We are now citizens of heaven, but remain here as citizens of earth.

Colossians goes on to say that if we will make choices (put off, put on, do not, let, do) to live like who we are – citizens of heaven – we will “receive the reward of our inheritance” and enjoy heaven on earth while we’re still hanging around.

In verse 19, he specifically addresses us as husbands. “Husbands, love your wives, and do not be embittered (harsh/resentful) against them”. We have choices to make. Every day of our lives we make thousands of them. Our day is a series of choices. Our life is a series of days. Daily, we choose to love our wife. Daily, we choose not to be harsh or to harbor resentment.

Christ chose to sacrifice everything for His bride so He could show you and me what a great husband looks like. He showed us how to love as He loves – unconditionally. He also showed us how to forgive – unconditionally.

Choose today to obey Him. Choose today to show love to your wife and to let go of those things you are holding against her from the past. Chose to forgive and to seek God for a fresh start in your relationship with her. Let go of everything you feel you deserve, and chose to love “as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her” (Eph 5).

If we choose to make choices like these, we will bring heaven into our home. We will begin to experience Christ’s kingdom coming on earth as it is in heaven, because we are loving our wife in accordance with His will. Heaven at home is much better than the alternative. We make the choice each day which we bring into our home, and which we get to experience.

Choose wisely.
