Why are we so drawn to the dark side? What is it in us that is so pulled in the direction of things that we know are not good for us? We can obviously blame Adam and Eve, but the truth remains – we must live in a fallen, sin-filled, temptation-ridden planet.
According to David Buss, professor of psychology at the University of Texas and author of The Evolution of Desire: Strategies of Human Mating – the #1 reason men cheat on their wives is that they crave sexual variety. He goes on to say that men evolved over the years with this need and it is just the way we are.
Christian researcher, George Barna, has discovered that as many as 60% of Christian men (church leaders and staff included) are struggling with internet pornography and fantasy issues. Is this because we just can’t help ourselves? Did God create us this way? If so, why is it wrong to succumb to it?
We all know God specifically speaks to these issues in His Word. He tells us not to be involved in things like these, and that they are sin, and carry consequences. He also promises to give us power to overcome them, and the ability to “walk in the spirit and not fulfill the lust of the flesh”.
So, how dou YOU do it? What has God shown you, taught you, spoken to you about all this? We need to hear from our fellow men how to walk above the world – and walk as lights in this darkness.
